There is a strange little moment in making something where it stops feeling like an idea and starts feeling like a real thing.
Not finished. Not polished in every corner. Not ready for the big lights.
But real.
That’s where we are with our first thing at Things People Love, and it feels good to say that out loud.
We’ve spent a lot of time with this project in its messy middle. The part where the shape keeps changing. The part where one small fix reveals three better questions. The part where you learn what the thing wants to be by building it, testing it, pulling it apart, and putting it back together with a little more care each time.
Now we’re getting close to beta.
That does not mean everything is done. Beta is not a finish line. It’s more like opening the door a little wider and inviting trusted people to help us see what we can’t see from inside the workshop.
What feels clear? What feels clunky? What makes someone smile? What needs to be quieter, faster, friendlier, stranger, simpler?
Those are the questions we’re excited to ask.
This first project has already taught us a lot about how we want to make things. Slowly enough to notice the details. Honestly enough to admit when something is not working yet. Playfully enough to protect the little sparks that make the whole thing feel alive.
There have been checklists, false starts, tiny victories, and more “wait, why is that happening?” moments than we can count. But somewhere in all of that, the project began to have a pulse.
That’s the part we love.
We’re proud of how far it has come, and we’re even more excited for the next stretch: getting it into more hands, listening carefully, and making it better because real people touched it.
Soon, we’ll have more to share.
For now, we’re just happy to be here: standing near the edge of beta, looking at our first thing, and feeling that wonderful little mix of nerves and joy.
